About Bryan:

As CEO, Bryan runs the day-to-day operations of Legal Innovators. He understands the challenges of running corporate law practices and law firms. Not only is he trained in the law, he is also a leader in business. One of his passions is helping clients find innovative solutions to their hiring, pricing, diversity and inclusion challenges in an efficient and cost-effective manner. He can relate to the pressure today’s businesses face to reduce costs, while preserving quality. Bryan started his career with Shearman & Sterling LLC on the M&A team, where Legal Innovators Co-Founder Jonathan Greenblatt was his mentor. This relationship inspired Jon and Bryan to found Legal Innovators.

With a rich background in law, finance, and business, Bryan is skilled at managing and revitalizing large companies with hundred million dollar budgets. Previously, Bryan served as the CEO for DoubleDutch (now part of Cvent), a venture-backed, community-based technology company in California. At Affinity Media, he took a money-losing operation and helped transform it into a $200 million dollar thriving enterprise with operations in the United States, China, and Korea. Bryan also led the Internal Growth and Real Estate operations at DaVita – a Fortune 500 company. When he took over, his division was an underperforming $400 million dollar business. After over four years under his leadership, revenue grew to more than $800 million dollars, with an attractive profit profile.

In recognition of his corporate leadership, Bryan was selected for membership in the Executive Leadership Council — a national organization of African American CEOs and senior executives at Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500 companies.

Inclusive Thinking: Neurodiversity for Lawyers *

12:15 pm - 13:15 pm PDT

Speakers: Haley Moss

About

We all have different brains and unique ways of thinking. But for individuals who are neurodivergent and think outside the box or norm, it is both a strength and a challenge because of a lack of understanding, support, and accommodation. Neurodiversity can help lawyers become more empathetic, solve client problems, and grow public opinion, if only we choose to listen and learn from those who think differently and go beyond the stereotypes. Diversity and inclusion also features disability and neurodiversity, though it is often forgotten in the conversation. As an autistic attorney, Haley Moss knows firsthand the personal and the professional of what it is like to be part of a neurodiverse team, how neurodiversity can benefit us and the folks we serve.

*For this program, Clio will seek 1.0 General CLE hours. Credit hours are estimated and are subject to each jurisdiction’s approval and credit rounding rules.

The Addicted Lawyer *

10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT

Speakers: Brian Cuban

About

Substance use disorders have always been higher than the societal norm in the legal profession. Most lawyers know someone in the legal profession whose career was either lost or significantly harmed due to addiction. Attorneys and law students like anyone else can be genetically pre-disposed to alcoholism, substance use disorders, depression, eating disorders and even adult self-harm. The stress of practicing law can be an environmental trigger to these issues. The associated shame and fear of judgment can inhibit a lawyer from disclosing these issues until there are both physical and employment consequences. Brian Cuban discusses his experiences with mental health issues, both as a law student at the University Of Pittsburgh and practicing attorney in Dallas, Texas for over twenty years. Brian discusses his recovery, redefining his career as well as restoring family and passion for life.

*For this program, Clio will seek 1.0 General CLE hours. Credit hours are estimated and are subject to each jurisdiction’s approval and credit rounding rules.

True Grit: The Surprising, and Inspiring, Science of Success

Who succeeds in life? In this talk, Angela Duckworth presents her influential work on grit—the tendency to pursue long-term goals with perseverance and passion. She describes the predictive power of grit for performance in a variety of fascinating contexts.

Duckworth has studied groups like the West Point cadets, National Spelling Bee competitors, rookie teachers, students from the Chicago Public Schools—all people performing in high-stress environments—to look at the correlation between grit and achievement. Drawing from these examples, and others, Duckworth explains what makes gritty individuals different from others, and, shares her belief that grit “can be instilled and cultivated by anyone, anywhere, and at any time in life.”

Seth will help you reframe you legal business and how it’s presented to the world in order to meaningfully connect with people who want and need your services.

About Stanley:

Stanley Tate is a native of Chicago’s south side obsessed with student loan law and typography. In between watching Being Mary Jane and The Good Wife, reliving his dreams of NBA stardom, and trying (and failing) to cook a perfect pot of rice, he helps clients develop their student loan repayment strategy. His law firm, Tate Esq. LLC offers a variety of student loan debt solutions from eliminating defaults, negotiating settlements, defending lawsuits, lowering monthly payments, and pursuing discharges in bankruptcy.

Stanley became a student loan attorney after struggling to find reliable, easy to read information on what to do with his own $100,000 student loan debt after law school. Establishing Tate Esq LLC, he took up a niche practice area and carved out a thriving business. Always iterating, Stanley has taken his practice to the next level by leveraging technology tools, automation, online marketing savvy, and a focus on excellent client service. Stanley has crafted a law practice that works for both him and his clients.
